Posted @withrepost • @emilyhampshire #transawarenessweek DAY 2 ⠀ My friend @laurengsundstrom (mentor, activist & all-round superwoman who I could go on about forever and ever so just check her out for urself) posted this a little while ago and I thought it was the best thing ever. ⠀ It’s something I’ve thought about a lot bc I’ve seen my trans friends struggle with this & I’ve always hated the idea that looking cis is the bar to be measured by. ⠀ Relieving gender dysphoria by any means is of course 💯👍🏻👍🏻 but also that’s another topic and one I don’t have the credentials to weigh in on. But this notion that ONLY looking & sounding cis is acceptable & anything else is something to be ashamed of is 🤨👎🏻 ⠀ Who decided that a cisgender tits&pussy or cock&balls combo is #goals?🤔 Likely the same ppl/media/culture that raises cis females to believe their body is: ⠀ 1- A currency 2- Something to be ashamed of 3- Something that needs fixing (👨🏼‍⚕️enhance!, 💉rejuvenate!, 🔪Liiiiift!!!) ⠀ I’m a privileged, white, cisgender woman whose had decade$ of specialists, therapists... psychic-shaman-guru-life-coaches(😬🤷🏻‍♀️) to help me not hate my body and every “embarrassing female” thing wrong with it. ⠀ While all that stuff makes inroads, it’s been the trans ppl in my life who’ve helped me truly love my body and embrace my femininity in ways I never thought possible. That’s just the truth🤷🏻‍♀️. My greatest wish is that I (& all cisgender ppl) could pay that forward to every trans person who’s told their body is: ⠀ 1- A currency / for novelty 😢 2- Something to be ashamed of 3- Something that needs fixing👨🏼‍⚕️🔪 ⠀ If u reeeeeally think about it, we put the highest value on the rare things in the world 💎 ...Average/standard model/mass produced is #basic. So, with that logic, shouldn’t trans bodies be #goals🤷🏻‍♀️ ⠀ What I’m most attracted to is authenticity... and if ur lucky enough to know a trans person, you’ll be in the presence of a human being striving OUT LOUD, against all odds, to be their most authentic selves. There’s nothing more beautiful than that, imo. ⠀ Obvz this is just ☝️perspective... MY embarrassingly longwinded one.
